Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Why was the club formed?

The idea for the club was born from an article about a similar local community college that had started a club that donated computers to students in the college that needed them. Thanks to correspondence between some people at MCC and another college in California, the wheels were set in motion and the club began to take shape as the student senate at Manchester Community College granted us full club status in the Spring semester of 2007.

2. How do I go about donating my computer?

Thanks for asking! We are always open to donations but we do have some minimum requirements the system must meet before we accept the units. These requirements were created to ensure the recipients of the donations can have a productive and efficient expreiance with the computers. Please see below:

3. What is the "digital divide"?

The term "digital divide" refers to the gap between those who have access to technology and those who do not. This can easily be seen with the difference's between an average households access to a computer in the United States versus the access of a house hold in a country like Africa or the Middle East. That is a obvious example, but here in the U.S. we are dependent on technology for so much, yet still so many do not have a computer system of their own. This can be very hard for someone going to school now with so much emphasis being placed on technology with online courses and applications like word being relied on so heavily.
