Question: My computer had become increasingly slow the past month, especially when going online and surfing the web. How can I fix this?
Answer: Over time through general use your computer can become cluttered with a number of files picked up along the way and internet temp files. There are a few basic steps you can do to clean up your system and help it run more efficiently. An excessive buildup of internet temporary files can lead to slow page loads and lagging internet performance. These can be deleted easily and without harming your system by going to Internet Options in Internet Explorer. Click on Delete Temporary Files and just wait for it to delete them, if the system seems to hang, just leave it. That means you have a lot of temp files that needed to be deleted! The next thing you can do is run a spyware check. There are many very good free apps online you can download like Ad-Aware 2007 and SpyBot that do a good job of cleaning up your system. Run these and keep them updated to prevent annoying spyware from hogging your resources and even exploiting your personal information. Last but not least, run a system defrag. This can be done by going to Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Frag.
